As far as I go about the fuel charges, think about the unique situation: if the flight leaves early in the morning to go home, you can see that it is cheaper and easier to just pay the refueling fee, and I don't want to bother trying to refuel the car before the tour. Also gas in the UK is much more expensive than in Europe, the rental agency in the US could have worked with fuel companies, and could be much cheaper to do so.

Ask the rental agent about all possible fees and read the documents thoroughly, because when you come home later, you do not want any unexpected fees to be shown on your credit card bill. Also, the rental company has to give you one, because you must bring your own GPS, then you should pay a high fee.

Certainly, the company does not cover rental cars abroad in the UK, I just do not want to be driving in the UK with US insurance. Consult your rental company as well as your insurance company to see your options.

If you are thinking about driving a US car in the UK, there are different rules you must follow for car and registration import. Unless you are planning to stay in the UK, getting or renting a car in the UK will probably be cheaper and easier.
