I actually want new drivers to take this as an advice. Don't pick up crappy riders. Cancel immediately.
This technically isn't cancelling a ride mid-ride, but I went to the mall to go pick up this woman on a Thursday night. There was some traffic and some confusion as to which exit she was waiting. When I pulled up, she started berating me for being late and started to nag. I knew this would be a $5.00 1-star ride. So you know what I did? I told her to get out of the car and cancelled it. Don't need this crap.
Why is this a good advice? Because if you don't start the ride, those crappy passengers cannot give you a 1-star rating.
I drive Uber and I am informing you that you can't "pretty much do whatever you want."
Maybe you should submit a question to the guru...
This is the start to everything. Many of my fellow drivers are starting to go back to taxi driving. There is no loyalty here. People go where the money is. Uber's flexibility is great, but this is a real job for many of us and we will go where the money is.
This trend will take us to crushingly low pay for the drivers. Very concerned.
holy cow. what a scary thought.
but he would only do that for the Muslims. and potentially Mexicans and women.
I know this is coming from a driver whose moves are tracked 24-7 but this is definitely creepy.
I just don't like that they are banking on us to forget turning the app off, so they can collect more data about us. That's weird, right? It's something we can avoid so the company is just hoping we won't. Something is weird there for me.
I turn my phone off when I am done with my shift (or when I took a ride), but I shouldn't have to take that additional step.
I totally didn't see the "Continue reading" and seriously thought the story ended with "try to determine who has the right of way." I was ready go drive my Uber off a cliff.
Yeah, I don't think it's literal. I don't think it's quite figurative either. I think he is saying, "hand-feed them with rides"
This guy cannot control his emotions. He is like:
"I can't choose between Reese's or Snickers!"
Driver: "You can't take both."
Happy guy: "WAT?!"
Just subscribed. Keep 'em coming.
Yeah, I am starting to get sick of this bullying. This is obviously against the law, but they continue to do it in the name of innovation and with huge wallets. This really is in the realm of bullying.
What irks me is that they are so proud of being the "disruptor" that they feel they can do wahtever they want and that they are above the law. This cannot be the way to proceed.
I am a driver and I have heard this as well. I even discussed this with other drivers. Many drivers swear by this.
I personally think it's one of those exaggerated stories that becomes a myth. I mean, everyone complains about their jobs. This is just someting we all love to whine about when we wish we were making more money.
You do understand that anyone younger than 40 have no idea what you are talking about.
BTW, when did Jetsons take place? 2016? LOL.
It depends on the type of store. and the willingness of the driver.
BTW, there's always been a feud on whether it's ok to take your drive through a Drive-Thru at a fastfood joint. I am ok with it. (I am a driver)
Yeah you will get your ride. Surge Pricing kicking in at 10X
Is she old enough to drive? Probably never got her license. Too busy complaining about whatever she complains about.
This had so much potential...but it's rather disappointing. Not really that funny.
You are evil. ...but this is insightful. I am not sure if I thought about that. I drive a Lexus RX (not as big as a Suburban), and I do make the biggest bucks on Friday and Saturday nights, due to being able to get higher fares.
You know... maybe I understand if you've got 3 or maybe 4 people (where one can sit in the front), but if you have 5 or more, that just doesn't make sense.
It's amazing to me that the passengers don't know this. I don't take Uber as a rider (I am a driver), but does the app not show the ratings?
Very true about the technology catching up. It theoretically isn't difficult to place technology behind every car, whether it's Uber or a Taxi. It's an excellent point about how the taxi drivers are experienced and safer in that regard. I am sure that's day-and-night over UberX's part-time drivers. Everyone talks so much about safety in regards to regulations and backgroudn checks; while they are absolutely right, I think people are overlooking the fact that professional drivers are just..better. Why are we squeezing them out?
I believe this is Uber's way of avoiding to provide the tip option. (like lyft)
This is slightly outdated, but I found this too.
