Can I take Uber with an invalid credit card? What happens if the credit card is declined (say after a ride)?

Uber and Lyft apps run a check, before your ride. It's required to request future rides.

Uber's app does check the validity of your credit card upon you entering the information.  If the credit card is declined for any reason, the app will not accept it, and your account will not be in a good standing.   In this state, you will not be able to request a ride.

Your credit card status can change over time. If Uber runs a check and your credit card is declined, the app will require you to update the information.  Again, you will not be able to request any future rides unless you update.

I am not sure how often Uber checks but it isn't every time you request a ride. (at least currently)   So there can be a situation where you complete a ride as a passenger, and then your credit card gets declined.  In that scenario, it's just like the above; the next time you open the app, it will require you to update the information.  You will essentially owe that money to Uber, so when you update the info, the charges will be re-applied.

(In case you are wondering, the drivers will still be paid by Uber upon completion of the ride.)
