Ever get stuck with an Uber surge when you're trying to go somewhere? Don't want to pay that 2.0 times multiplier on the fare? Did you know there is a way to get a notification when the Uber surge is done? We're here to tell you how!
When the surge screen shows up in the Uber app, there are three options listed, similar to the screen below.
The second option, "Notify me when surge drops" is the option you would choose if you're looking to wait until the surge is done. After you press this option, Uber will send you a notification when the surge is over. Usually, you will get a notification in 30 minutes or less.
Additionally, on the bottom of the screen it may tell you how long until the fare expires. You can use this to decide if you want to wait for the surge or not.
You can also permanently turn on surge notifications if you want to always be aware of the current surge. You can do this through the settings in your Uber app. Under your account, press settings, and select the option that says "surge pricing". There are options to select the minimum surge price you want to receive notifications for, and turn on push notifications.
The screen will look similar to the one below.

I do not have the option under settings for the surge notification.
Me either! It’s a completely different interface AND doesn’t show the surge unless I try to confirm my payment. These photos look like they’re years old.
I found this. https://www.inc.com/business-insider/uber-will-stop-showing-riders-the-surge-price.html
How can you have written this 1 year ago, and have updated it today, and have it be this outdated. Even 1 year ago this was not accurate. Uber did away with this type of surge pricing in 2016. https://www.inc.com/business-insider/uber-will-stop-showing-riders-the-surge-price.html
