Do drivers crave conversation?

I’m a nearly daily rider to get to and from work, my rating is a 4.83 and I have my common courtesy of not slamming their doors, not leaving trash in their vehicles, wearing my seatbelt once I’m situated. I’m always outside so as soon as they get here they don't have to stop for more than 30 seconds, I tip occasionally depending on how much I have in my account or if they were friendly and welcome me at the pick up and wish me a good time at work or to have a good day. I say hello when I get in and if they ask me how I am I say I’m good and if they ask where we’re going I tell them the location. I’m a very introverted person and I have horrible social anxiety so usually after the hellos and the how are you I put my headphones in and listen to music until we reach the destination and I tell them have a good day aswell and a thank you. I have my headphones in the entire time but if they do say something to me I do respond but if not I stay to myself. I’m a very quiet individual and prefer if theres not much conversation because if too many questions are asked about myself it'll result in a hospital trip rather than a work ride.

There's a shut up and drive mode on the app.

How long are the rides you are taking?

No, personally I find it refreshing when someone is quiet and I can just zone out on the driving. I don't think drivers would rate you down for this at all. Some other things I can think of is bringing drinks/food into the car might bring your rating down? Smell? Not tipping in cash (I would never do this but who knows, some drivers might?). I also think some drivers are just pissy and rate people lower just because.

Some drivers do like to talk. Some don't. I find it awkward sometimes when there is total silence on longer trips or rider sits upfront and doesn't say a word.  When the rider gets in we exchange greeting, I ask how their day is going and they give me one or 2 word answers I then assume they dont want to talk. If they are on their phone, laptap, or have headphones in I assume they dont want to talk also. However some drivers may find this as rude behavior even though to you its not. I always felt like I was doing something wrong if people just sat there and never said a word. Over time I learned sometimes the rider just wants some peace & quiet. They are paying for the ride so its up to them. Try saying something "had a hectic morning looking forward to listening to some music" or "i dont want to be rude but I have some emails to catch up on". That may put some drivers at eaze or take the guess work out of should they make some conversation. You ma…

It can be difficult at times reading a stranger and what they want or dont want.

I am willing to bet  (with no conversation) some of your drivers are assuming you wont tip or you will rate them under 5 because your not talking.  Try what I suggested above & see what happens. If ratings dont go up then some of your drivers may be giving you under 5 stars on just an assumption you wont tip. I don't agree with them nor do I ever assume as I've had tips show up 2 weeks after the trip. I personally dont rate riders under 5 stars for not tipping but some drivers do. Quick question. Do you take Lyft or Uber? If its Lyft its most likely because of not tipping.

BTW your rating isn't bad trust me its rare to see a 5.0:) Dont stress over it. Drivers stress over our ratings because we get deactivated below a 4.60. You would have to do something really bad as a rider to get deactivated:)

Yes, I also agree with Momof4 here regarding some of her tips on alerting the driver that you will be quiet.

I use both Lyft and Uber but mostly Uber since I’m a gold I have more perks than lyft. I’ll definitely try your suggestions and see if I go up 1 or 2 points thanks!
