In NYC, deadheading accounts for ~50 percent of the 600 million miles that TNCs have added to the roads since 2013.

We really need to look into the problem of extreme deadheading. Millions of miles are being driven for no reason at all, increasing traffic and toxic emissions.

The term rideshare was originated as a way for people to share rides thus DECREASING traffic and emissions. How can this word mena the complete opposite now? It is truly devastating.

Only way to do this is to limit the number of cars or set prices to deter people from taking rideshares. Oh wait, that's taxi cabs...

This is fascinating. I mean, it's a really great example of the law of unintented consequences, isn't it?

    But it also sucks.

I wonder if better algorithms could help with this problem. If people were able to plan ahead a little better, rideshare companies could plan such more efficient routes.

they should make designated places for rideshare drivers to hang out while waiting for a ride. Like taxi stands. They do this at airports and it seems to work ok. At least then people aren't just driving around aimlessly waiting for a fare.

There are SO many rideshare drivers though. They'd need whole damn parking lots for us all over the city.

LOL too true!! Just make some underground parking lots for RS drivers. It would probably turn into a whole black market down there though.
