Here is the news: Passengers rate the ride and not the driver.
Social dynamics of when people share a ride affect the ratings. If riders are matched up with others that are pleasant, they will rate higher and vice versa.
I don't necessarily blame them for doing this. One it's human nature. Two, they should somehow provide feedback to Uber that their experience wasn't great. No, the drivers shoudn't get dinged for this, something out of their control, but I see why customers would incorporate how their experience was.
I feel like I need to intervene to how people are reacting all the time. Say when a guy starts hitting on a girl and she is obviously a bit uncomfortable. No, we shouldn't have to be responsible for that, but I do take it on myself to make the experience a good for everyone.
Tough topic.
it's fun to imagine that this was actually a review left by a driver for a rider.
"The passenger instructs me to pullover, rolls down the window, and then starts yelling at pigeons in Central Park. Tipped well. A+"
You will regret asking. This is true. Here's the proof.

This is a real problem for drivers in Manhattan though, I will admit. We know where the secret public bathrooms are. Usually hotels, large retail stores like Best Buy, Starbucks, Crate & Barrel, etc. The problem of course is the parking. I sometimes do it while waiting in a taxi line. You make friends with another driver or just make sure they can get around you if you are not back in time.
Uber has a Greenlight hub location in NYC, but there is no parking (that I know of). Pretty much all gas stations have closed their bathrooms for public use. So what's left? Double park on the side roads, and risk it. Yep.
There are parking lots in the Bronx where I could park for $10. That works too.
If everyone stopped tipping, all drivers would stop driving. They will all operate in the negative territory, and would be forced to look elsewhere. So please tip if you want to keep using Uber and want this whole rideshare thing to stay.
For those of you who aren't from NYC. Here's an example of a parking rate:
So, basically, it's the headline, right? We get paid more for our time rather than distance traveled. So if you are stuck in traffic, you get paid for that.
Would this also help the super short trips? We currently get screwed with this. I wonder if this will help? I haven't figured it out yet.
She was hired purely because she was a woman and the company made her say it because she was a woman.
Can you imagine if a guy said that? Uber basically thought this statement would fly better coming from a female executive.
Did isn't stupid. This is why they hired Priceline.com to protect them, play the politics, approach lobbyists, etc.
