Here is the news: Passengers rate the ride and not the driver.
Social dynamics of when people share a ride affect the ratings. If riders are matched up with others that are pleasant, they will rate higher and vice versa.
I don't necessarily blame them for doing this. One it's human nature. Two, they should somehow provide feedback to Uber that their experience wasn't great. No, the drivers shoudn't get dinged for this, something out of their control, but I see why customers would incorporate how their experience was.
I feel like I need to intervene to how people are reacting all the time. Say when a guy starts hitting on a girl and she is obviously a bit uncomfortable. No, we shouldn't have to be responsible for that, but I do take it on myself to make the experience a good for everyone.
Tough topic.
Jeez, I had so much to say when I read the topic but you covered all points I could think of. Save some for the rest of us, man!! LOL
My new app has been crashing on me mid-day. Whie I am trying to accept a ride, while I am driving someone, while I just sit and try to find my acceptance rate. It doesn't matter.
Forget getting paid. I just want to work without disruption. I freak out every time.
Granted, when I re-open the app, the ride is still intact (phew) and can continue with my day, but it just isn't a great feeling. I mean, what would the customer thing? What if I had missed a request? Waht if I can't complete a ride?
Uber is telling me that it may be my phone. iPhone 6 isn't that old, is it?
...that I will get a bad rating on my ride. LOL.
What do you mean you aren't allowed to use Uber there yet? Background checks?
Are there any cities or regions where Lyft operates but not Uber?
Safr? It's based out of Boston.
Safr, ride-sharing program for women, debuts in Boston
Huh, weird. I just looked at theit website, but it doesn't have a list of cities they are currently operating in. Maybe Boston only?
In the Uber Driver app, click on "Account" at the bottom right.
Then select "Driver Profile." The rating should be right below your profile pic!
No, the driver doesn't pay. The driver doesn't evenknow about it.
This goes with all other promotions. like a customer using referral credits to pay for their rides. The driver has no idea.
YES. THIS IS TRUE and it's annoying.
Is that what it is? You only make money on the part of the pickup that's above the threshold? I thought if you crossed the threshod, you make the rate multiplied by the whole distance and time. I guess that'd be too good to be true. but that's how I read it when Uber announced it.
LOL
Drive for multiple rideshare apps and multiple services.
I have 4 different rideshare services loaded on my phone, and I use different ones accordingly to "maximize my profits." Try to have a primarily one though, in order to receive the streak bonuses. Only use other apps, if the primary seems to be slow or when the surge seems to be better on another.
Also, try signing up for other services like food delivery (UberEats) and Kid or patient transport. None of them are as lucrative as others, but what I learned about them is that they hit different consumers and you get to fill your slow times. For example, UberX is great for mornings and late afternoons, but it's dead during the day. but with UberEats, you get requests at like 11:30AM for lunch and again at 8PM for dinner.
Not sure about maximizing profits, but there are ways to save on costs/expenses.
For example,
- Don't you ever chase surges. (even under the new rules)
- Just sit and wait between rides. Don't waste gas.
- Get a low mpg car with good gas mileage. I still people who drive big cars for Uber. I get it that that's what you own, but if you drive more than 20 hours a week, it's worth it for you to splurge on a Hybrid or smaller footprint car. Trade it in and take the one-time hit.
Whether you have a full-size Camry or a tiny Fiesta, you make the same money on UberX.
Remember if you drive 20 hours a week, you probably drive like 500~700 miles. That's 25K~35K a year. By going from 30mpg to 50mpg on a Hybrid, you save 20mpg, which is a saving of $1500~2000 annually.
Just so you know my anonymous passenger that drivers actually prefer long trips because we make most of our money on those. It's the short trips that we dread.
So don't be so shy about taking long trips. They are always welcome. I will go wherever you wat me to go.
Of course, there are times I can't take you. If I am wrapping up a shift for example.
BTW, don't worry about the dead legs (the return trip) either. We usually make up for it on the way out. Sure, it'd be nice to be able to make up for that trip on the way back (while we pay for gas and incur mileage), but I just got a shift where 50% of my time, I was driving.
It used to be incredible until they started charging for fuel. Now it's just like a rental car you can rent per hour.
Regular rental car can be $30-50 a day. This is compared to 24 hours x $5.00 = $lots
ZipCar had even a better deal at $15 or something.
I was just doing this last night in a McDonald's parking lot. I saw another driver doing the same thing across the lot. He was dumping sand off of the floor mat, and I was vacuuming out the trunk. and this was like 11:45PM.
Our eyes locked. and we gave each other the silent nods. and continued on with our shift.
The day of a driver is not quite like a regular office work. You don't sit and work all 12 hours. There is a lot of waiting. A lot more than you think.
If we didn't have to wait for rides, I bet I can make the day's pay in 3 hours. Take 4 rides that are decent lengths (think 4~5 airport trips) and I'd be done. Instead, I would read a book during the slow periods. (and this is why some people only work the busier times of the week.)
Why stop there? Magnitude 9 earthquakes are the best! Virtually no drivers out and many emergency responders have to get around
Did I go too far? 😜
I bet the colorful surge map matches very well the weather map. :)
Did you try going to the home page of this website and lunching in the from and to locations?
The ban was lifted. When the ban was originally placed, Uber appealed and had the ban suspended, so they were able to continue operating.
Then later it was made permanent. Uber won. This is exactly what happened in London too.
