Incident with Uber Driver 7.3.2020 [NOTE: I called Uber's emergency line right after the ride and the woman took my story but I could tell she was not really listening as she kept reading things back to me that were incorrect. She told me someone from Uber would get back to me and no one did. I used the app to complain about the as well and received a very vague email saying they would contact the driver but "We understand that there are two sides to every story. The reason why we're reaching out is to give transparency to both parties without rushing decision and we do really appreciate hearing your side. By no means is this accusation, however, it is always necessary for us to be proactive when we receive reports of this nature and remind you of our Community Guidelines."
He picked me up at my apartment. As I got into the car, I was looking down at my phone rather than looking at the driver as I usually do. He confirmed the address, I said yes and he began to drive. I looked up and realized he wasn’t wearing a mask. Usually, I don’t get into the car until the driver puts on a mask. And because Uber is now requiring both driver and passenger to pledge to wear a mask for the ride, I really shouldn’t have to request for a driver to do so. Regardless, I I was too distracted this time. So when I saw he was maskless I asked “where is your mask?’ and the following exchange and actions occurred:
Driver: Do I need to wear a mask? DO I? Huh? You think I need to wear a mask huh???
Me: There’s now a mandate.
Driver: Did you even read the governor’s proclamation…

Me: There’s now a mandate.
Driver: Did you even read the governor’s proclamation?
Me: Yes.
Driver: DID YOU?
Me: Also, Uber now requires it.
Driver: Not necessarily.
Me: Ok.
Driver:[FINGER A SURGICAL MASK HE HAS ON HIS PASSENGER SEAT] Do you WANT me to wear a mask? That’s why I’m asking.
Me: Yes.
Driver: Well, what if I don’t want to?
Me: That’s fine.
[WE ARE NOW ABOUT 8 BLOCKS FROM WHERE HE PICKED ME UP AND HE TURNS ON TO THE WRONG STREET IN DIFFERENT DIRECTION OF DESTINATION]
Driver: Do you want me to let you out?
Me: [TRYING TO DEESCALATE THE SITUATION] No you can just finish the drive. It is fine.
Driver: Well, what if I don’t want to? What if I want to drop you off right here?
Me: Ok.
Driver: WHAT???
Me: Ok.
Driver: No. I think I want to drive you back to where I got you.
[HE TURNS THE CAR AROUND]
Driver: So you do know that the governor wrote a mandate.
Me: Yes.
Driver: WHAT???
Me: Yes.
Driver: [MIMICKING ME] yeeeessss.
[HE CONTINUES TO BERATE ME AS HE PASSES MY APARTMENT AND CONTINUES DRIVING. AT THAT POINT I REALLY BELIEVE I’M IN DANGER]
Me: Please stop here.
Driver: [IN A MENACING VOICE AS HE CONTINUES TO DRIVE] Where? Here? O how about here? OR maybe here?
Me: HERE! PLEASE STOP THE CAR RIGHT NOW!
[HE PULLS OVER SEVERAL BLOCKS PAST MY HOUSE. I LEAVE THE CAR AND WALK HOME]
