Is a taxi ride cheaper if only one person is riding

The Guru Take
A taxi ride is generally the same price whether 1 person or 4 people (the capacity for a traditional taxicab) are riding in the car. However, some taxi companies do have surcharges for extra passengers (passengers 2-4). Typically, this surcharge is only a dollar or two per person. So while the metered rate will be the same no matter the number of passengers, you may save a few dollars if you ride alone by avoiding the extra passenger surcharges.
