Meru is a large Indian taxi aggregator based out of Mumbai, operating more than 20,000 taxis and 24 cities in the country. They have been a succesful business since 2007 that was able to consolidate many disparate taxi companies in the region to create a branded and streamlined taxis across various cities.
When they began, they were more a traditional taxi company where you would call to reserve a ride. However, since then, they have innovated through the years where you can request rides through websites, messenger bots, and finally smartphone apps. They were also one of the first companies to offer an organized carpool options.
In the recent years, they have re-branded themselves as a ridehailing company like Didi, Uber, and Ola, where users would book and can track their rides on their smartphone and GPS. Their current differentiator is that they do not charge for surge pricing.
