Hi everyone, I’m currently preparing paperwork for a visa application, and I’ve run into an unexpected requirement. The embassy is asking for notarized translations of some of my personal documents, like my birth certificate and university diploma. I’m a bit lost because I’m not sure what exactly “notarized” means in this context and how it differs from certified translations, which I’ve already had done before. Has anyone here gone through this process? Was it complicated, and how long did it take? Any tips or personal experiences would be so helpful right now.

I had to deal with notarized translations a while ago when applying for a work permit in Europe. The main difference I noticed is that the notary basically confirms the authenticity of the translator’s signature. It wasn’t too hard once I found the right service, but it did take a few extra days compared to regular certified translations.
