How much extra can I expect to pay on New year's Eve?
The Guru Take
Watch out for Surge Pricing! 5~10x possible.
Ahhh, the infamous surge pricing. They become the talk of the town on New Year's Eve where people have reported 10X surge pricing. Last year, some people reported 9.9x in Miami Beach, 4.9x in DC, and 6.9x in Philadelphia.
It's been reported that the surge pricing is highest from midnight to 3:00AM the night of the Eve. It's tough to avoid such a window though. Take a look at this man who woke up to a $1100 Uber ride last year. (http://bgr.com/2016/01/04/new-years-eve-uber-surge-pricing-reactions/)

"Upfront Fare" to the Rescue?
This year (end of 2016), Uber is claiming that there will be no surprises due to their newly implemented "upfront fare." This is the system where they will display the fare in advance, and as long as the route is not changed from the time of booking, the price will be honored.
That seems like a great thing, but this does not mean there won't be a surge! Let's see what kind of prices we will see this New Year's Eve.
