No, you do not need to. It's all "on-demand." You request one when you need one!
There is no need to book in advance with Uber. You simply request a Uber vehicle at the time you need a ride. Usually, a car should arrive within 15 minutes, even though this figure depends on where you live and the availability of the users around you at the time.
If you are not sure if Uber is availabe in your city, or how common the drivers are, simply open Uber's app and see if there are cars near by!
