Each company has their own set of payment methods but generally if you are using a rideshare application on your smartphone you will be asked to create an account and in put your credit or debit card details for payment. Most rideshares that are hailed through applications only allow users to pay via an on-file credit card.
Taxi and limo companies on the other hand will allow you to pay via a credit/debit card or with cash. In fact when taking a taxi, we always recommend carrying cash just in case their credit card reader is broken or you happen to get in one of the few taxis that have yet to update to a credit card reader.
