And let's not forget that r+d includes new development they are doing, like the self driving cars, uber elevate like someone else pointed out, etc. Uber has a lot going on.
I love them. So convenient and fun. And you can stash them wherever you are going, if you are clever enough, so no one else will take it and you can ride it back later.
This is something Uber really needs to address... It's a big problem.
There is no question that publicity is part of it. But I think they are also trying to build driver loyalty to some extent.
But yeah,,, maybe mostly publicity. Build on their "good guy" image in contrast to Uber's crappy image.
Good question...
It seems like there must be some fun uses for these other than roads. Maybe some fun nighttime hockey games.
That is one ugly carplane. I wouldn't be caught dead in it.

I'm kind of amazed at how small they are compared to Uber actually. 7.7B in gross bookings vs. 37B? I thought Lyft was getting much closer to Uber.
Is it weird that the guy asked for $900, and they happened to have exactly $900?
Oh great. Because cars never sit out in the sun all day
WTF, and then it says the battery exploded in the impound lot five days after the crash. I'm supposed to keep this thing in my garage at night??
I think I'll stick with my gas guzzler, thank you.
This is happening way too fast.
Right? It's like... all for show.
Doesn't this kind of make Uber look like... they're expecting trouble?? I don't know. It just seems kinda weird.
