I've been a taxi driver for 20+ years now. Been in Boston the whole time. I'd like to think I have open mind and am not against signing up for Uber. Just haven't had the chance yet. Oh, I don't own a car, so how do I do that?

Uber driver partners must file taxes as self-employment income, which differs from the taxes of traditional workers. Instead of using a W-2 to report income, self-employed professionals must use a 1099 when filing taxes. Uber driver partners fall under the rules for a 1099-K for their driving services and a 1099-MISC for any other payouts (e.g. new city bonuses, mentoring, referral fees, etc.).
Uber and Lyft do not take your taxes out, you have to do that yourself. I learned the hard way.
They send you a 1099. I think if you made over $600 or something. You file it like you are an inependent contractor.
