It is case-by-case, and it significantly varies from person to person. Some drivers claim their background check was cleared in 2 days, and in some cases, 7~ weeks. We seem to hear that it generally takes about 2 weeks.
Apparently, the speed depends on:
- The volume of driver application (i.e. how busy Uber is in certain locations)
- Complexity of the background check which can differ from state to state.
- Individual's background, where there are additional reviews necessary, such as criminal record, etc.

7 weeks for me. I honestly have no idea why it took so long. I contacted them three times and I finally gave up. Never heard from them.
One day, I got a text, opened the app, and noticed that I was approved. It was after I had forgotten about it.
Mine took 6 days.
Mine took exactly two weeks. Two mondays. almost exact. Never spoke to a single person through the process. Kind of eerily.
