We live in San Francisco. I been using wife's car (registered and approved on my Uber driver account) at Uber for almost 4.5 years, she is the register owner of the vehicle and personal auto insurance policy is under both of our name. Will she be liable for for any accident while I'm ubering with her car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Alan

In period 2 and 3 you would be covered by rideshare company’s insurance + deductible which is on you if you wrecked your car

in period 1 if you have no rideshare insurance it would be on you as your insurance company would most likely not cover you using car for commercial purposes. Unless you do not say to your insurance co that you had uber app on during accident then they would cover you as if you were in accident going about your daily life.

i do not see how one would ever be personally liable that is what insurance is for.

We may need to further clarify the definition of "liable". If you get into an accident, your wife's auto insurance company will pay for the damages (assuming that the incident is covered by the policy). After that, the premium will most likely be affected, e.g. the premium would go up.

The price of the policy will depend on the risk level of your wife's account, such as the claims history, so accidents will hit her account and increase the prices accordingly.

If you get sued, the liability insurance on the policy should kick in.

If you get criminally sued or accused, well, that's on you.  Not on your wife.

For this very reason I got myself a 1 million umbrella policy. For few hundred dollars per year a very good thing to have when you are transporting people for commercial purposes

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve done the same.

However I understand that the umbrella coverages are not be available for everyone, like those with a few driving violations for speeding.  I found out this recently.
