My friend and I are going to be going to the same place but need to be picked up at separate locations and come back home to separate locations. Can this be done without having to request separate rides

You could try to ask your driver to detour to your friends house, however, most drivers will want to follow the apps directions and not deviate from the suggested route. Your best bet in this situation is to try and meet up with your friend at a mutual location first and then order a car together.
Also, as a side note, most traditional taxi drivers would be happy to make this accomodation if you would rather use a traditional cab for your journey!
