Many people do tip for Lyft, UberX, and UberXL. Less for UberBlack and Lyft Premier
As UberX and Lyft become the main stream transportation for ground transportation, more and more are taking on the tradition from the taxi days of tipping. Uber and Lyft both offer in-app tipping.
How often and how much people tip vary significantly depending on the car type. UberBlack (the luxury cars) for example, people generally do not tip as much or often. For UberX and Lyft, people seem to leave a few dollars tip $1~5, as is often suggested by the app on short rides.
Tipping overall seems to be in the 5~8% range in most cities for UberX drivers. Some people claim it is higher, but this is the figure we are hearing from the drivers, who review their monthly earning statements.

I always click on the MIDDLE circle. Whatever Uber or Lyft app shows. LOL. I have no idea how they display those numbers. Is it like 5, 10, and 20% or something ? Like at restaurants?
