Generally, the fares are calculated for the length of the whole trip, and this is regardless of how many passengers there are or how many stops you make. So for your party of 4, you should only pay $40. Remember if the car needs to travel further and/or longer as a result of the additional pick-ups and drop-off, the cost may be more.
There are always exceptions though.
- Some ride options, such as the taxi, sometimes have additional fees for each additional passenger and each drop-off. (These fees are usually minimal, so if you need to drop the 4th person off, you should!)
- The rides that are deemed as "carpool" may charge for each person and each pick-up/drop-off may be deemed as a separate ride (hence a charge). There are many rules around this, so you may want to look into the details before the trip. For example, UberPool, you are only allowed to bring ONE additional rider with you.
