How popular is the Thanksgiving day for taxis and limos? Will there be surges? Will there be drivers available?
What would the fare be on Thanksgiving day?
The Guru Take
May not be a surge but will be busy for drivers.
First, let me remind everyone that rideshares like Uber and Lyft work on a supply-vs-demand basis. This means that higher the demand (i.e. more passengers) and lower the supply (i.e. fewer drivers), more expensive the fares could be due to potential surcharges.
The short answer is that the few drivers who will be on the road will be very busy. Sometimes, there may also be surge pricing. This is due to significant reduction in # of drivers who are willing to drive on this family weekend.
Night Before Thanksigiving: Fare can rise due to surge. People travel quite a bit on the night before Thanksgiving. They do this to get to their families, and many college kids are out to see their friends and party. This increased demand of passengers and with not many drivers willing to work can often lead to surge pricing for an increased fare.
Actual Thankgiving Day: Rates most likely the same. The supply of drivers is significantly lower on this day, but so is the demand for drivers. Hence, the surge is less likely to happen. (With that said, we hear drivers keep very busy on this day due to lack of competition and manke a lot of money.)
Good luck, and have a great Thanksgiving!
