Bigger cities must have more customers but there are also more drivers and hence more competition, right? Smaller cities may have fewer customers but less competition. So if I had a choice, where can I make more money?
Which is more lucrative for Uber and Lyft drivers? Big cities or small cities?
The Guru Take
Bigger cities are more lucrative. More demand, more volume, more surges.
Drivers make more money in larger cities. This has been clearly indicated in various driver surveys, and larger cities show higher earnings. (For more more, click here: Ridehail Driver Payout & Take Home)
Yes, supply-and-demand does come into play, but currently, big cities still keep drivers busier due to higher demands. In a small city, you may be one of the few drivers, but 1) that does not mean you will constantly have surges, and 2) with so few drivers, people may not be aware or accustomed to using Ubers and Lyft yet. (It's apparent the supply has to come first before the demand follows.)
