Looking to avoid Uber's Surge Pricing? Have you been scammed by Uber into paying too much for your ride? We understand, and we are here to give you some tips and tricks to avoid paying the surge pricing that Uber often charges their customers during the times they need a ride most.
1. Look at the clock
If it's 5pm on a Tuesday in a busy city, it is probably not the best time to request an Uber ride. You will likely get a surge pop up when you go to request a ride. If you can, wait a couple hours until the traffic dies down to take your ride, or try one of these othere strategies.
2. Use Another Ridesharing App (You can use Ride Guru to compare different rideshare fares!)
Our rideshare comparison tool allows you to enter your location and destination, and then we will tell you which rideshare service will be the cheapest for you!
3. Try UberPool
If you're trying to save money but don't want to wait 2 hours for the traffic to calm down, try requesting an UberPool instead of an UberX! This will allow you to share the ride with another person going in a similar direction, and in turn you split the cost in half! Not to mention the other added benefit of meeting a cool stranger in the process.
4. Try walking to a new location
If you are not in a rush try walking a few blocks to a less crowded area. Many times Uber prices will drop if you place your pick up point in a quieter neighborhood.
5. Go Old School and Take a Cab.
If all else fails, take a cab! Believe it or not, taxis still do exist, and they do not have surge pricing. When you are in a rush to get to where you need to go, this is not a bad option. Sometimes you can hail a cab right from the sidewalk, which also makes it convenient!
