I've always wondered this. And a follow up question would be, if the driver DOES get paid less, I should probably keep it to myself that I am using a promotion, right?
If I use an Uber promo code, does that mean the driver gets paid less?

Yes the driver does get paid less. I am a driver and the driver does get paid based on the full amount of the ride. So therefore, if it is a discounted ride then the pay is distributed based on that amount. Uber does not compensate for the discount pay loss.
No. The driver receives the same pay regardless of any promo you use. In addition to that, if any of your friends who are riding along don't have the app yet the driver can get paid for signing them up to be a rider in addition to providing a first ride discount for the passenger.
This was one of the ways that Uber and Lyft were able to build a customer base in the beginning!
No, the driver doesn't pay. The driver doesn't evenknow about it.
This goes with all other promotions. like a customer using referral credits to pay for their rides. The driver has no idea.
Nope, if you use a promotion code the money is taken from Uber's (the company) pockets not from the driver. The driver still gets their full share.
