The destination filters are becoming a joke. It was a great idea when they first introduced them and really helped drivers in a number of ways but now everything with these companies is getting too limited to make any impact on our schedules.
I didnt read the article so I don't have much to stand on but I have seen so many companies promise this before and fail. I am not holding my breath.

I agree with Momof4, the new preferences are all basic things that any decent driver should no within the first few seconds of the driver anyways. Always help with luggage, ask how they are and take your cues on whether they want to talk of not, play "bland music" like jack johnson, keep the car comfortable temperature wise (always air on the colder side instead of warm ) and you will be good to go!
oh strange. So it is a way for them to hide what the customers are really paying so they can get away with lower bonuses paid out to the driver?
I was looking for work and it had the lowest barrier of entry. Just pop in my car and drive. I don't mind driving but I am not one of those that loves it either, it is truly just a way to make money.
19469 miles in 2018. I only drive weekends and an occasional night here or there.

Right, we all know NOT to pick up street hails but if someone is offering you twice the fare amount it is hard to say no. I know many drivers who now personally know some of their frequent riders and they get paid on the side. It might not be right, but drivers have to do what drivers have to do to make a living wage.
TBH I don't really care as long as I am getting paid. Waht pisses me off is when they lower rates and both have done that so...

This is a scam drivers can do but they will get in trouble if Uber notices they are doing it multiple times so it is not really all that common. AS LG-PA said we want to end the ride, get our money, and get to the next ride! It could have just been a mistake but either way Uber should reimburse you. Though sorry you will have to deal with Uber's terrible customer service...
