If you enjoy the service and food from a waiter or waitress, people tip them. If they enjoy the drink from a bartender or like the style of their hair from a stylist, people tip. If the doorman saved you the effort to carry your bags to your room you would tip, or if your pizza was hot when it got delivered you would tip the driver. If your dealer is being good to you, or you want to keep him/her in good favor you would tip him/her too. If you get a coffee at the coffee shop do you tip? If golf is your game what is the common practice after the round do do with the man/woman who carries your clubs? If you want good service from your Host/hostess, or your car parked for you in confidence it will be safe and undamaged a tip is appreciated. Lastly, when you arrive safe and sound, and maybe even have a good conversation, you always tip your taxi driver. How about just the guy in any city on any corner that asks you for a buck?

All of these positions except the last are doing a service for you and you appreciate that so you give a token of gratification to them for it. What make an Uber or Lyft driver any different? I think that if you enjoy and appreciate the service that you received, and are thankful and capable of the act of tipping the person that Helped you get where you wanted or needed to be, I dont understand what would make that driver any different than those i listed before. I drove for Uber in California and after all overhead was paid i figured it out to be that I made about $3.00/hour. In a time where I was physically incapable of doing my usual occupation it turned out to be something made it possible to pay most of my needs but not all.
