Dear Gurus:  I was taking a passenger and her grandson home, about a 26 mile trip, ( to the best of my recollection), about 8 miles away from their home, when I noticed my tire pressure in the right front tire plummeting. I was on Interstate 87 at about 3:45 in the afternoon on Friday, 5-31-2019, I went to Uber App, could not find anything other than had an accident to get help on app. . Asked for help on app, got no response, Called my road service for help, they said they would send a tow truck. Uber was not responding, I called my wife to come and help. She got there, half an hour later, no response from Uber, so She took the passenger and her Grandson home ( about 8-10 miles away). State Police showed up, contacted another towtruck to help expedite matters. FYI, State Trooper was very nice and sat back 100 yards or so while I waited for help.   First tow truck showed up and tried to help but couldn’t stay and left. Second tow truck showed up and put my vehicle (a Chevy Tahoe), on their flatbed. I told him that my wife was on the way to pick me up and he told me that I would have to go to their garage to pay off the towing bill. I told him , “Fine!” I went there, paid them $216 and we wen5 on our way. They towed my vehicle closer to where we live where I will see them tomorrow for a new tire. I went to dinner with my wife, had an awesome prime rib and got home at 7 o’clock. Now, not sure what I should do - what do you think I should have done and what should I do now. Remember: when I needed help from Uber, there was no response and my app was going back and forth, with a white line about a million times. (Kind Of like the app does ba…

(Kind Of like the app does back and forth when your app says it is looking for rides,) so I do not feel like talking with somebody in the Philippines who will not understand half of what I say. What do you say, gurus? Thank You One and All!

Wow, $216 for a tow.   ouch.

Since you are on the road, you should have some road-side assistance service.  AAA is always the one to come to mind. It's about $90 a year, and it gives you free tow, battery jumps, tire changes, etc.

Some credit cards offer similar service albeit, unless you have an elevated privilege, you usually have to pay. You basically save you the trouble of not using Google MAps.

My mistake is your gain.  You get a huge discount on car insurance with AAA. I cancelled AAA last year thinking I have other means, and then my car insurance premium had an adjustment for $66.  I think the AAA membership was $88, so the net is... $22 a year.

Hi, Why did not you just put on a spare tire yourself?

I had a flat once with a passenger in the car who was running late for train that was to take her to the airport. Pulled over, put on a spare, got her to the train, she even called and said "She made it"

You can always call Uber help from the app, not sure what if anything they could do, but definitely better to call them. I have them on speed dial as I call them often when they forget to reimburse me for tolls on PA turnpike

Tire was stuck underneath the rear hatch of the Tahoe and there was no way to loosen it. I called Uber Support after I could not find any other options on the App - closest I could find was Crashed Vehicle. I tried to get help from Uber but they were out of service where I was. I called my Insurance’s assistance line and they sent the tow truck to the wrong location even though my passenger and State Police heard me give correct location. Then NY State Trooper called another wrecker and they came within half an hour while the trooper sat behind us making sure cars did not get too close. My wife drove over 60 miles round trip taking my passenger and her grandson home and Uber says ‘That was nice!’ I had to pay $216 out of pocket for my tow and today paid $266 for a new tire and rotation. Now, Uber won’t let me work until their ‘team’ reviews everything!Ugh! Thanks for the help LG-PA! Pray for me !😊

        • Sorry to hear that Lou. Look into AAA add the premium towing. I think its 100.00 per yr but you can write off on your taxes. They wouldve towed you to your house or car repair shop. They use GPS to track you so they can find you. You can also watch them drive towards you on your phone. They keep you updated as to when they will get to you. They usually are out pretty quick also. By taking the premium package you get more miles on towing. Towing is very expensive so its worth it to pay the extra $30/$40 per yr. If you are on a Turn Pike you are a priority call.also. Lock your keys in car call them. They are good for discounts at places also. Uber is worthless to call. You are going to get a person from another country who will read off a script or flat out tell you they cant help. Sucks I know. I would've asked my rider if they minded waiting or told them they could request another Uber if you are in a safe location.  If they complained about .87 base fare because they had to …

Lol If they are complaining you know they are rating you with a 1 star anyway so may as well make them wait in the heat. Assuming they had a safe spot to wait. If they dont mind waiting just keep them comfortable. Apologize and thank them for being understanding. Crap happens on the road. Wouldve been nice if trooper wouldve took them to a safe spot and let them order another uber but you know thats not happening. We need to find you a place for cheaper tires. My tires were 205.00 for 2. Definately look at AAA. It's worth it. Especially that 100 miles towing. It wouldnt of cost you a dime for towing your car. If I knew my rider wasnt saying anything to Uber then I wouldnt send them anything. If i thought my rider would complain then its best to let them know. Hope your weekend is much better.

You’re so nice Mom - THANK YOU! PS I did get AAA Premium after that but it may not of helped that day since the area I was in probably did not have service - I don’t remember! Hope You are Well!
