To ippei and Chelly: Not necessarily a driver scam. We Uber/Lyft drivers in upstate New York had to literally beg/ask our customers to pay the fare for the ferry to Vermont and back or we were out of pocket Twenty-Five dollars. I reported this to Uber and Lyft so many times and their standard answer was: there is no Champlain Ferry or we cannot find any ferry in our system. So, do not be so quick to judge us drivers, we may actually be legitimate in asking customers to pay for fair compensation. Do your due diligence before accusing everybody of being scoundrels. Thank You.
So Sorry to hear this JLC, if Lyft was a standup company they would pay all of your expenses and compensate you for their telling you that you were okay to drive in Florida! But knowing what I do about Lyft (Uber is no better!),I wouldn’t count on them for any help. If you start a Gofundme, let us know, I will contribute and I am sure, so would many more! Good Luck JLC!

Howdy FG! The beauty of Uber was(is) that there are no schedules - just free agents working when they want. That means Uber cannot definitively know anybody is working anytime but right now. To schedule for a future date, try a limo service or a taxi and, Good Luck!
Hi Big Daddy. Getting personal requests is quite the double edged sword. If the trips are long enough and the riders pay enough - they may be worthwhile. What usually happens though is this, you have to sign off Uber/Lyft sufficiently early to get to their pick-up on time. That means if the app takes you a half hour away from your personal pickup, you have to leave that area without accepting any more pings and get over to your pickup without making any money because you do not know where that next ping is going. So what I have found is that if people do call you for personal pickups, it is such a pain in the booty to sign off of your apps and get there and still make it worthwhile that it just isn’t worth it. Does this make sense? If not, I tried, Sorry. Good Luck!
Hi Magic. I agree with you. With gas prices so high, our nominal 52 cent raise on minimum trips (from $3.66 up to $4.18 w/Uber) is definitely insufficient to offset our expenses. Uber does not care about its’ drivers, AT ALL! Where I am at, I actually fear seeing a long trip come up on my phone. Uber and Lyft need to make these one way trips worth our while . For example, if I accept a 150 mile trip , Uber/Lyft pays me around $130/$140. That’s about 6 hours of driving and 300 miles worth of gas, which will cost me about $60 bucks. The $70 or $80 I end up making for 6 hours is just ridiculous! So, I definitely agree with you Magic - it seems we all need to look elsewhere to make decent money! Good Luck To All! PS I don’t think we should give short distance riders one-star reviews, it’s not their fault that Uber and Lyft will not do right by us.
Hi Carver. I am sorry it costs so much for your trip but can you explain why it costs so much? A four mile trip should not cost you more than $15 with Uber or Lyft especially at the time of the morning. Anyhow,Good Luck To You!

Hello Big Daddy, I hate to have to tell you that working in small towns or rural areas on Uber or Lyft is just not a good way to make money. I work in a small town and the main reason that we do not make reasonable money is because when we get pinged in our town to go anywhere but locally we have to deadhead back home and between the costs of gas and time lost - it just doesn’t work! Didn’t mean to depress you BD but I did want to keep your aspirations realistic! Best of Luck and I hope it works out for you!
