"A year on from reporting accounts being hacked, Londoners receive shock bills for ‘phantom rides’ in Mexico and New York "
Apparently, users are getting their accounts hijacked and being charged for phantom rides.
"It has also emerged that it is possible to be billed for other people’s Uber trips even if you have never signed up for the on-demand ride-hailing service. That is what happened to Neil Gallagher, who last month found three unauthorised transactions relating to Uber on his credit card statement."

Let's face it... the issue has nothing to do with Uber, and everything to do with credit card fraud. Fraudulent Uber charges or fraudulent online purchases, they're the same thing. The only reason this is even being discussed is because the media loves to criticize any article that contains the name "UBER."
User acconnts getting hijacked has been happening ever since computers were invented. Uber is no exception.
Keep your passwords safe, folks.
