Technology has changed ways people drive, and with the adoption of GPS, including ones that can even track traffic congestion and road closures, the knowledge of the streets has taken a backseat. (pun intended)
You must be comparing Uber drivers to taxi drivers, but the taxi industry is also making changes. In 2015, New York City TLC has significantly reduced the number of required geography questions from driver tests.

GPS is way smarter than any experienced drivers now. Plus, you as a driver is expected to follow the GPS to stick with Uber's upfront pricing and for liability purposes, i.e. rider accusing you of doing something shady.d
