I used to do this growing up with a local taxi driver. I was in middle school or high school (?) and my parents would give me a $20 the nights they were out. Then I'd call the dude, he picks up the food and brings it over. In the 80s. I guess I was ahead of the times.
This brings up a slightly deeper topic. I feel people nowadays forget food delivery has always existed. Have you heard of pizza and Chinese delivery.
There is probably a reason other businesses didn't adopt the model, like cost. Think large chain with big volumes, like Chipotle. Why don't they deliver?
Of course, "ordering pizza" and "ordering chinese" are almost engrained into American culture. People think about it automatic, so these restaurants can count on there being a good level of demand. (enough that they can hire a fulltime driver)
This is was supposed to be covered by Uber Connect, their currier service. They had a test market in LA and SF. I wonder if they are still doing it.
