In an effort to help busy families during Covid-19, Uber has announced a new feature within their Uber Eats app, Family Style Meals. Family style meals will offer larger portions and value meals from participating Uber Eats restaurant partners.
To order a family style meal, open your Uber Eats app and then tap on “Family Style Meals”. According to Uber and depending on the restaurant, “menu options will include curated menus focused on larger portions intended to be shared, or a combination of items from mains, appetizers / sides, desserts and beverages that offer value and savings”.
Family Style Meals are launching now in New York City (and surrounding suburbs), Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami and Toronto. They plan to roll out the initiative to San Francisco, DC, Dallas, Boston, Houston, Connecticut and New Jersey soon after.
Further, through teaming up with school districts around the country, Uber is also donating more than 100,000 free rides for struggling families to pick up meals.
"We know that these are tough times for families, whether they rely on school meals to feed their children or are dealing with the pressures of working from home and cooking three meals a day," said Kalyan Kuchimanchi, director of regional operations for the U.S. and Canada at Uber Eats.

Family-style delivery is such a smart move, especially for busy weekends or game nights. I’ve tried a few services that offer those kinds of options, and doordash has actually done a decent job with group orders. Timing and portion sizes still depend a lot on the restaurant, but the app layout makes it easy to add multiple meals without too much back and forth. I remember checking reviews beforehand just to make sure the location I picked had a decent delivery record in my area.
