Want to be “extra green” this spring? With Lyft, you can turn your bike and scooter rides into new forests! Lyft has teamed up with Aspiration, a tree planting program, to plant trees in honor of every bike and scooter ride taken in the Chicago, Denver, and Bay Areas.
This wonderful green initiative will be going from now until June 5th, World Environment Day. If you live in the Chicago, Denver, or Bay Area all you need to do is choose Scooter or Bike rides over ordering a car and Lyft will take care of the rest!
While every ride counts, the funded trees may take up to 18 months to plant to allow time to set up nurseries, select/expand planting sites, take advantage of optimal planting seasons and accommodate for local/regional/country social, political, and health considerations.
According to Aspiration, “Across the globe, over 420 million hectares of forested lands have been lost since 1990 due to increasing pressures from anthropogenic activities, such as timber logging, mining, and urban or agricultural expansion. Deforestation means less habitat for wildlife, fewer natural spaces for people, and fewer trees to absorb the high levels of CO₂ from the atmosphere. Planting trees and restoring forests are among the best ways to draw down carbon from the atmosphere, because they help mitigate the impacts of climate change and contribute to healthy ecosystems that support wildlife and people.”

I am a big fan of these campaigns. Planting trees is like watering a barren soul. Instead of staying at home playing connecting dots games and roller baller, I will plant more trees in my family's garden.
