It's more or less a meritocracy......to recover you'll have to do ALOT of rides for the one star to fall off.
There's already a brain drain happening with the California exodus....people leaving. The next wave are busineses leaving.
There's gotta be a healthy balance across the board. It's a shame most of the drivers getting gased up by layers and unions and lobbyists don't realize the only people who gain are the unions who just want a slice of your earnings, and the politicians who jump at every opportunity to grandstand.
Once this passes, unions will automatically be entitled to 3% of your earnings right of the top...and there ain't nothing you can do about it. Be careful what you wish for...most gig workers have day jobs and like the freedom/control.
The issue here should be that drivers SHOULD keep 100% of their tips, and gig companies should NEVER double dip. Now that would be fair and equitable. If you want to be a fulltime employee...you really want to be treated like a cab driver? Again...be careful what you wish for. Don't let other people with selfish interests think for you.
LOL now this was a good/funny post.
FYI - Haulzi is no longer around. Fleetzen is gone, Buddytruk is packing it in as well.
The only winners are politicians and union bosses.....votes and money. A medium article from the ceo of Phlatbed, company I've been closely following and associated with.

Thanks for sharing this!
You'll be surprised at how many people actually think Uber and Lyft will also help them with pickups and delivery. You should check out their forums. Many XL drivers flout this rule...
U-Haul is not a moving company, they are a commercial vehicle rental company. Not propaganda....
Hi, actually there are no rental trucks. Drivers use their own vehicles, set their own rates, and chose which jobs/orders they respond to in real time.
It's not unusual to have a handful of drivers taking multiple orders at the IKEA in Brooklyn for example on weekends. One driver hauled in $600 in one weekend shuttling quick drops from that same IKEA branch.
Phlatbed is going quite well with over 14,000 drivers and growing exponentially on a daily basis. Currently in almost every major city, incumbent on the east coast when it comes to on-demand moving including junk removal and general labor etc. I can connect you with some internal people if interested.
All the money has already been made. The Private Equity guys, early investors etc just cashed out and left sloppy thirds to the general public.
I have no idea who that is, but thanks for the mention :-) . . I can only try right?
Perhaps your subconscious is telling you it's time to eat something? 😀
They are growing. I've been actively covering them for a while now.
So we can agree that price optimization, fair compensation, and balancing supply with demand is a good start.
Well said. Background checks are almost always a loss leader, any company that doesn't lean the cost into the compensation structure knows it doesn't matter, that's one area you will always budget for as a cost center.
Would you rather have 40% drivers who are effective and are able to meet demand (which may slightly exceed supply) and command higher compensation instead of 100% where 67% quit within 6 months? Driver aquisition cost for Uber and Lyft is almost $150......so the driver has to run at least 5 jobs before the aquisition cost (including screening etc) is paid for, THEN they can start hoping to see some profit per trip unit. Zero tolerance sets the tone..and in a way is self filtering. People who know you won't put up with their nonsense are less likely to get on the platform in the first place.
It would be nice if Uber or any of the rideshare companies had a zero tolerance policy. I know Phlatbed has a "once and out" policy. You screw up one and you're permanently banned from the platform.
I think such strong stance on bad behavior is a strong deterrent.
Phlatbed is not for truck rentals. It's Uber-like. You post a moving request, pre-screened drivers near you (I believe it's a 31 or so mile radius of where you are) respond, you select which driver you want, and the driver shows up to the location you've specified for the pick-up. They pick up the item and deliver it to the destination you specified.
The drivers have their own vehicles...could be a truck, van, or SUV. It's mostly for small to mid sized items across town, or junk removal, or packing/loading labor help. Not for long haul or large / elaborate items.
I used phlatbed recently, easy to use, simple and straightforward - on-demand. Used Dolly in the past during grad school days in Oregon. Depends on where you are, both apps are big in different parts of the country.
Never used TaskRabbit...yet.
