Uber wants Waymo to use their network. Admitting defeat?
Uber is in discussion with Waymo, Google's autonomous vehicles, to be included into their network. Look at what Dara said …
1) Uber is still rolling this out, so it's not availabule for all cities and all areas within a city
2) The threshold is set differently for each city/area. I think they mentioned the range is 8-10 minutes?
In typical Uber style, they aren't clear on how they deploy a new feature. Some of it is that they're still trying to figure them out and easing into it and also so drivers won't try to take advantage of the program. (Heaven forbid if drivers get overpaid! Gasp!!)
No, dude. It's not a secret. You can check it for yourself in the Uber app. You have to click into the Hamburger Menu (top left) and then click on our face, I think.
The answer is no.
Try taking a pole. I bet 80% of the riders don't even know they are being rated.
Tried. Absolutely didn't work. The record is there and it looks like my accentance rate was hit.
Not even sure how this would work. Maybe people were killing the app before it could be recorded? So it was just a software fix. or was this like some leniency for those drivers that happen to have a bad signal?
Anyway, it doesn't work. Did I not kill it fast enough?
Yeah, I agree with that. Since you are not getting anywhere reaching out to them, so let Lyft handle the problem. Make it their problem by entering what you can, and they can investigate.
It's a game of cancellation chicken. Yeah, if the driver doesn't like you for any reason instead of simply cancelling on you, they try to cancel and also collect the no-show fee. or just the start the etrip without the rider and complete it immeditely. Then you can make a claim to Uber.
Remember the single biggest expense of a Uber or Lyft driver is the gasoline. Driving a large car will sure cut into your profits. There is a reason UberX drivers drive the Focus and Prius'. It really makes a huge difference.
Remember, to drive Uber fulltime, you would be driving 1000 miles a week. Do the math.
Peel off. Cancel the ride (make sure to get your no-show) and then yell, "Run fast!!"
Yeah, it happens fairly often. A text? It's usually when they get on.
Instead of saying outright "no" or being rude about it, I usually ask what time they need to get there by. Then I tell them whether it's realistic or not. Then I say;
"I will do my best".
Remember those four words.
The amount of fees is ridiculous. It is completely irrational for shorter trips and marginally ok with longer trips.
Really, there should be a % commissions and none of these flat fees.
Is this really a thing? This is horrific. A blasphemy. This makes me an angry. What kinda evil spirit is creating and handing this we out. Is this a joke.
It totally depends on where you drive and the market. or even time of day. By default, yeah, I pick a few locations I have had good luck and stay there. but one thing you may not be thinking about is that we are taken to random places by the last rider, so we are forced to think creatively as to where to wait next. You really do start to learn about the city after awhile. and this plays into how much you enjoy a ride. Say, if you know you accept a ride to a hot area, then you know you are golden. Then you get a request to outside of town, and you are bummed because you start to think about the return trip.
I drive an SUV which gets 17mpg, so the gasoline is definitely the #1 expense.
LOL. So true. It happens to me at least 2 to 3 times a week, and every time I think to myself, "do they really expect me to get a ticket or lose a license for this $18 ride?
Have you really asked for a "$100 cash upfront?" That's awesome, but I have to ask. a) Do people take it facetiously? (It must depend on your delivery) b) would you do it if someone handed you a $100 bill? :)
Not sure if this is weird or not, but one time I had an entire trunk full of catered foods. like vegetable plates, fruits, plates and napkins, packaged soups, etc. etc.
It was well over 30 minutes when she got a hold of me. I drove back to her house, probably well over an hour after drop off. She thanked me profusely, and gave me a huge tip, to which i tried to decline multiple times. (I mean, it was definitely part my fault. I forgot too, and I even helped her load the car.)
That'd be a neat feature and it will help your accentance rate, right? We do wait for surges, but we are always guilted into accepting any requests. Can I make it so I only get notified for surges? It should be under the screen you choose UberX vs UberSUV.
Yeah, I ran into a few already. Not like we had enough riders asking for super short rides. This will make it even worse.
I'd start communicating better about what kind of rules are in place.
For example, I have no idea how the long pickup fees work yet. Do I get paid or not? How long do I have to drive for that to kick in? It seems awfully random, and I don't even know if I am entitled to them or not. (until I actually got paid on it)
Also, the clean up fees, the handling of disputes and clean-up fees... Aren't the rules set in place? Why so hard?
Lyft passengers are supposed to be friendlier, more down to earth, free spirited, etc.
Lyft used to encourage people to ride in the front seat, fist bump the driver, and engage in conversations. That was their claim to fame.
Anyone remember the pink mustache? I still have the fuzzy mustache.
Haha, the "fringe benefits." Makes sense though. What other job gives this ultimate flexibility.
...and really, if I am taking a nap, I don't expect to make money. Yes, I may gripe at Uber for not getting me enough fare, but I feel like that's a different problem.
HEAVILY varies. Morning rush hours, after large events, Monday mornings, Friday afternoons, Friday/Saturday pre-dinner times, Friday/Saturday last calls, early Sundays for stragglers and people going to events, etc. etc. You have to learn for your own city.
