Why are taxi drivers complaining?  Just go download an app and start driving an UberX.  If you can't defeat them, join them!!

Don't own cars?  There are many services that will rent you a car to drive an uber,...plus this is exactly why uber is working on having their rent-a-fleet, right?  makes sense to me.   just ditch the monopoly of a taxi industry

The change caused by the rideshare services is inevitable, and they are here to stay. I think everyone admits that.   Many in the taxi industry were counting on the government to step in, not to block Uber and Lyft, but to bring some regulations and rules to put into place.  Most of them were trying to hold out long enough for these measures to be put into place.   Can they hold out long enough?  Boston...Austin..Seattle...   Still backgrounds, but I think the days are numbered.

Ultimately, the industry will overcome the conflicts and eventually stable itself.  Drivers and companies will adjust and be ok...   Of course, those who had invested in medallions, owned and followed the taxi regulations of the past may be facing more adjustments (and negative impacts) more than others.

Oh, boy. they are looking for a bailout.  I have to say, it must have been unnerving to see the value of their nest-egg plummet.

"Boston medallion owners want a bailout from the city or the state, accusing officials of failing to protect the system they bought into in good faith — and often at great expense — from competition they claim is illegal. They decried Uber’s aggressive expansion and lobbying tactics, saying the company brazenly broke the law but bought its way out of trouble with political donations."

I wonder this too.  All the gang related stories I hear about renting taxis from Boston Cab, are drivers thinking good riddance?

Gosh, I haven't taken a taxi in forever.   In fact...and sadly, I think the last time was when I took a cab from Logan.

I have to say I am surprised to find out that you couldn't take one at Boston yet.  What happens if you had called one before?  Does the uber app block it?

yep.  it just shows an empty map with no cars nearby.  There might have been a message but I can't remember.

I wonder what prompted the Port Authority to allow them finally?  changing of the times?  Who calls this shot?
