Can someone else ride with me while driving for Uber? Are there any rules against it? I would love to have some company and for added safety, of course.
Can I drive Uber with someone else (like my husband or friend) in my car?
The Guru Take
Unfortunately, you cannot. Uber prohibits this practice
Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring another person, such as your family member or a friend, while you are working as a Uber driver (i.e. being online). Uber states:
Can I bring someone with me while I'm online?
In the interest of safety and comfort for riders, friends and family of driver-partners may not ride in their vehicle during a trip. When online, please do not allow other passengers to ride in your vehicle. (source)
If you break this rule, you can risk being deactivated or losing your status as a driver. You can easily be found out as the rider may report you to Uber fairly easily.
Some drivers prefer to have someone else for safety purposes, say a female working odd hours, but this is still not allowed unfortunately.
- Exception is UberEATS. If you are driving and delivering food items, you are allowed to bring a passenger. (Remember though. This means that you want to have the UberX option turned off on your app. Said another way, if you have your own passenger, you cannot acecpt requests for both UberX and UberEATS.)
- No, you cannot bring your child either. We get this question from parents who find childcare too expensive Unfortunately, this is not allowed.

I've had this happen to me not once but twice. It was a cute middle aged couple. Super friendly. I felt it was slightly weird, but I didn't mind. The wife tagged along on a shift they told me.
