Can Uber set a round trip fare?
The Guru Take
Uber is an "on demand" service. No "roundtrip" concept.
As Uber is an on-demand service, you request a ride when you need a ride. More recently, there are ways to schedule a ride, but this isn't so much considered a roundtrip, and there are no discounts.
If you would like to make a quick stop, say to pick up a friend, pizza, or something you forgot at a store, you can always ask your driver to wait for you while you are inside. The meter will continue to run and you will owe the driver for the time he or she waits; however, as long as the stop is short, it will be cheaper than requesting another ride and incurring the one-time fees. (This is what's great about Uber. As your identity and your paymenet method are stored in the app, drivers can trust you to not run away without paying.)

Why would anyone think you can do roundtrips on an Uber? That doesn't even make sense. Just book twice.
Maybe for discounts?
Maybe for fastfood takeouts?
i mean, there definitely are times when you think about roundtrips.
It does make sense if someone is just picking up something or someone. Ex: Person picking up a young child whom can not ride by their self, or person just needing to run in and pick up an already signed document from a doctor, office, you forgot your ID needed to enter an event but have a close-by, safe & free parking spot, etc. So there are in fact many reasons why a round trip from Uber can be deemed necessary and useful.
Great point! I should probably clarify that in my response. In cases like those, the passenger could ask for the driver to wait, so such a round trip would technically be considered as a "single ride" in the eyes of Uber. This way, it would be much cheaper as he or she wouldn't be stuck with two flags too (initial) fees.
Going out of a supported region and worried about getting home?
Dont' they kind of do this now? Multiple destination thing.
well, sorta depends on how you define roundtrip. if you are going somewhere and immediatley turning back, sure you can do that.
but when do you ever do that? picking up chinese?
You can message or call your assigned driver en route and advise them that it will be an xx minute wait with round trip, and why.
I have never had an issue, and it has always worked out.
