Does Lyft take you across the Canadian border?
The Guru Take
Up to Driver Discretion. Lyft is vague on its policy. Remember the 100 mile limit.
Lyft drivers are known to take riders across the border to Canada. However, you may want to check with them upon requesting a ride whether they are open to that. (If not, simply cancel, and request another.)
A few things to keep in mind:
- Please watch the 100 mile limit imposed on all Lyft rides. The Lyft app will automatically end the trip at 100 miles.
- Be careful for the ride home. Once you arrive at your destination across the border, depending on whether Lyft is available there, you may not be able to request a ride back. At the time of this writing (Apr 2018), Lyft coverage is limited in Canada.
- Make sure to ask your driver if he or she is open to it.
- All passengers and driver must have the proper documentation to cross the border.
Lyft is slightly vague on this policy. Here are two articles on "Coverage Areas," one for US users and another for Canadian users. Notice on the CA page, it states, "Please note: There are no cross-border rides between Canada and the US." This may simply be warning the Toronto users (Lyft's only market at the current time) that Buffalo exceeds their 100 mile limit and hence drivers should not take them there.

Comments
I take my customers across the border all the time.
I will admit though, when the traffic is horrible, I have asked the riders that they be dropped off on this side of the border. No comment on what excuse I used.
