Planning a business trip to San Francisco from NY.  I would love to use Uber there.  ...or does another app like Lyft act differently?

Uber App for Riders can be used anywhere.

You can use the same Uber app and the same account, and you can request a driver in any city or country you are traveling to.  Isn't that pretty cool?

(This is not true for driver apps, btw.)

On a side note, Didi, Grab, and Lyft were working on compatibility, where you can use a single app to call other services. (So you can use Lyft app in China to call Didi divers and vise versa.)  This is what some people call the the "anti-Uber alliance."  However, they seem to have backed away from this and, instead, now they just encourage users to downlocal apps.
