Can't sleep at night thinking about this. No, not yet to try. Highway, tunnels, and airport departure fees. How would they split it up?
How do Uber Pool and Lyft Line handle tolls? Who pays for the tolls when there are multiple parties?
The Guru Take
Split across the riders (or rider groups)
Great question. You wonder this because some UberPool and LyftLine riders hop on and off at different times and some riders have longer trips than others. You'd think calculation to split the tolls would be difficult.
However, it is actually pretty straightforward. The tolls, such as the ones for tunnels, highways, and bridges, are split evenly among the riders (or rider groups, if they have friends) at the time the toll is incurred/registered/paid. So, if a UberPool goes over the Washington Bridge that charges $15, and there are three groups on the car, each group would pay $5.
This is the case even with highways where longer you are on the highway, more tolls are incurred you may think, "but what if one of the riders joined mid-ride? Wouldn't that be unfair?" However, if you really think about it, Uber probably isn't picking someone up while on an Interstate. (However, I suppose that is possible.)

Thank you for the response. That does make sense.
Interesting question. I never thought about this!
Wait, so no one is asking for UberPool at a rest area on I-90? Isn't that theroteically possible? Then what?
By the current rule, that poor person who is stuck at a rest area will still have to settle for an even split.
