Is there a minimum distance for Uber or Lyft? If so, what is it?
The Guru Take
There is technically no minimum distance, but there is a minimum fare.
There is technically no minimum distance and you can take it as far as you want, but there is minimum fare that you would have to pay. This amount is different from city to city, and it also depends on the level of service you request. It can range from $5.00 to $25. (UberX to UberSUV.) I haven’t done the exact math, but it’s probably enough to get you moving about 2 miles.
Here’s something only drivers know. If the ride is too short, the Uber app won’t know that the ride has begun, and it won’t give the driver an ability to complete the ride. So, the driver would have to start moving the vehicle.
Look at the trip below. It didn’t even leave the parking lot of the mall. For more laughs, go to this forum topic:

I have picked up several fares that are under a mile with Lyft. It is certainly possible, but not likely to be done because you are still going to be charged the minimum fare. I find that there are more of them on rainy days or days that are near 100, but not so many on a pleasant day where walking is not uncomfortable.
