With just 20 vehicles Lyft has serviced over 5,000 paid self driving taxi rides to customers in Las Vegas. They are now looking to grow their self driving taxi fleet. If you would like to take a Lyft self driving ride you will have to opt in to the program when you open your Lyft app in Las Vegas. Rides cost the same as traditional Lyft cars.

Has anyone on this forum tested out one of these vehicles yet?

But isn't there someone still to accompany you in the vehicle just in case it goes bad?

Yes there are two safety drivers but I am not going to sign all my rights away for the sake of technology.

I was going to and had every intention until I read thru the terms of agreement and it basically took every one of my and my heirs rights away in case of death.  I was not spooked by the car itself but by the long agreement and the terms and conditions basically telling me that I was totally risking my life.    I wish I had not read it but I am a Ts and Cs kind of person becaue then I might have taken a ride.

All these seemingly amazing tests are in easy places. Vegas. Literally the middle of the desert.

Do 5000 rides in new england in the dead of winter and I'll be impressed. Seems to me they are not even testing their cars in harsh conditions.

People keep saying AVs will be all over the place in 5 years. Don't listen to them. 5 years is crazy. 20-30 years, maybe... maybe.

I had a pasenegr in my car taling how he could tont wait until driverless cars come around. I asked him if he ever had a dead pixel appear on his phone or TV out of nowhere, he said yes. I then asked him what if that happened in the driverless car at 70 mph? :)

Come on. 5K is still impressive. Yes the tech is in its infancy. But give these guys some credit.

This is deceiving though. They are "autonomous cars" with a full time driver behind the wheel.  I bet you didn't even notice if you took one.

Maybe you'd notice the sensors on the top of the car

Don't forget the scale though. That's only 5000 out of 100s of thousands.
