There are rideshare companies that are safe to use for minors.
Here is yet another story of a driver complaining (rightfully so) about these minors. Parents take responsibility and get your child where they need to go. Stop putting your minor children in the hands of total strangers! WTH is wrong with you? WTH are you thinking? Have you lost your mind? Uber & Lyft need to up their Insurance or put a stop to this. Parents are the 1st ones to blame, Uber & Lyft are next, then the driver that takes these minors. However I will say it is a very difficult decision for most drivers. Do I leave the kid with no ride at 10pm on a street corner? Do I leave them stuck at school with no one else around? Suppose the next driver is a pedophile? The list goes on. I have struggled with this decision on a few occassions. So have many other drivers. We have lost bonuses, promotions, quest, time, and money. This should not be something that should be left to the driver to figure out. This will not stop until the parents and U & L fix it.
1st time minor request car or parents do it for them - 25.00 charge, 2nd time - 35.00 charge, etc...
OR
Driver calls 911 and lets them handle it
Either or/both I guarantee it will stop.
Uber claims to deactivate accounts of minors. Lyft claims they inform riders. I am calling BS on both. Both companies want money. They dont care if drivers take minors because if anything happens they will throw driver under the bus. Their statement will be its i…

DRIVERS - YOU ARE SCREWED!!! SUED!!!YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. Do what you feel you need to do. I get it. I've wsited 30 min in a snowstorm waiting on parents to come get their 16 yr old because I know I cant drive minors but was not leaving her alone and stranded.
PARENTS - WAKE UP WE ARE STRANGERS. DIDNT YOU TEACH YOUR KIDS "STRANGER DANGER", DONT GET INTO A CAR WITH A STRANGER, DONT MEET UP WITH ANYONE YOU MET ON THE INTERNET, DIDNT YOUR PARENTS TEACH YOU THIS? PLEASE STOP SENDING YOUR PRECIOUS KIDS WITH STRANGERS.
WE are not drug tested
Uber never meets us in person
Background checks are 3rd party - In plain English- they are not the best background check
Have you read the stories out there about Uber and Lyft drivers?
WAKE UP! DONT BE CARELESS, LAZY, IRRESPONSIBLE AND NEGLECTFUL. IS IT REALLY WORTH YOUR CHILDS LIFE? YOUR CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS?
- I AM A DRIVER TELLING YOU ALONG WITH MANY OTHER DRIVERS. YOU ARE WASTING OUR TIME, COSTING US MONEY, BUT WE (MOST OF US)WANT YOUR KIDS TO BE SAFE. WE THE DRIVERS ARE TELLING YOU ITS NOT SAFE. KEEP YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR CHILD

Child specific services such as Zum are a lot more expensive than U/L but parents take the cheaper route, go figure!
There’s egg or chicken thing going on. Until there’s enough cars and drivers, the price will be more and the availability will stink.
Frankly, I don’t even know there is one around me. DC area
I have also read how recently some Uber drivers don't feel that they are in the wrong for not accepting young riders saying it would hurt their bottom line! This is so crazy to me. Apparently our society cares more about money and the ease at which things can be done than safety.
It stinks to waste your time, gas, and lose out on other fares but much rather lose a fare then my house. Not worth the 15.00 or less you will make on the trip. It will happen one day. A driver is going to pick up a minor, there will be an accident and that driver will be in a boatload of crap. Uber will throw them under the bus saying "drivers are told not to pick up minors, its in the TOS". It really sucks for drivers who are doing quest or have to maintain a certain %. Uber and Lyft shouldnt hold these cancels against us but they do. The 3.75 cancel fee may cover the gas you used on the way to pick up thats if the company even gives it to you. Drivers Beware.
Does this really happen a lot? Getting under 18 year olds requesting rides? I would think it would be a semi rare occurance?
