WOW - "Mr. Acosta made 4,457 trips for Uber last year, or more than 85 rides each week. He made about $30,000 after expenses."
Also, this, so sad. "He makes a point of wearing a tie in hopes of improving his rating as a driver and making his children proud."
The independent drivers guild is trying to change these numbers. It is hard being a driver out there right now.

Is that 30k after taxes too? If so that actually isnt that bad for a job that doesnt require a degree or skill and can be done whenever you want.
Many of the drivers are doing it because they can’t find a job in their field; many have degrees and professional experience. Also you are out of your mind if you think anyone can exist on 30 k in NYC.
This is a huge problem in the America today. The huge misalignment of its workers' skillsets and the jobs that are available. I am glad that the economy is good and unemployment is low, but it doesn't mean people have the jobs they want or getting paid well.
Right, this is like McD workers wanting $20 an hour...
I once heard that if you are born in the US you already won the lottery, ya you might not be "rich" by US standards but to a lot of people around the world you are loaded! Be grateful you even have a tie to put on in the morning.
Personally, I’d rather have been born in Sweden, a more civilized society.
I am 10 times more likely tip someone who wears a tie!
After 32 years in this business the driver will net 38% from the gross income . That why the turnover rate is high and the quality of drivers is low.
It is a harsh world out there right now. Rising gas, Uber's corrupt nature, Gov't turning a blind eye. I thanks god I only do Uber as a side gig these days.
