I'm a retired 70+ year old guy in pretty good shape who travels internationally. I generally have a 35-40lb bag. I'm planning a move that would put me about 1/2 mile from a train station. I really don't want to drag a bag over uneven, maybe cracked sidewalks and across streets. What's the best way to deal with a Uber/Lyft to get rides to/from the station?
Very short trip??

Thank you. As a driver, I appreciate that you are mindful and thoughtful of the drivers' circumstances. I think you already are aware that drivers do not prefer short trips, as Uber takes a flat fee right off the bat, and sometimes the pickup (the part we don't get paid) takes longer than the ride itself.
I think your situation is very understandable, and you should take an Uber/Lyft for that purpose. The ride may end up being $5, but if you can tip a few dollars, say even $3~, that will make it worth it for the driver.
This is what Uber is supposed to be for. A quick and easy ride, with no need for appointments, for people who need the ride. I think it's wonderful, and I'd be happy to do it.
At the end of the day, this is the reason Uber has been massively successful.
All the drivers (including mysef) talk about money and money, and sure that's important, but there's a part of every one of us that wants to genuinely help people. I mean, there are many ways to make money.
Speak for yourself! I love money! j/k
Though I will admit. Whether a day is great or crappy totally depends on how the customers were. A simple "thank you" and a smile can brighten up our days. We want to be seen as providing good service, not just a way to get from a to b.
Order an Uber and make sure you tip your driver. You should be just fine.
Uber or Lyft is a great way to get there. Just get the app and request the ride when you want to go. Assuming you are in a fairly populated area you shouldn't have trouble getting a ride to/from a train station.
For such a short trip, I would tip generously. Drivers don't get paid much for trips like that.
it is a very short trip. Drivers don't like short trips. But, they don't know the destination until they accept the ride. as someone else said, be sure to leave a good tip, and all will be well.
