I'll try to make it short, father just life-flighted to Miami so he's there alone. when he gets discharged he'll need to get back to Cudjoe Key. What are our option? I'm in Ohio.

Technically he could take an Uber, which you could book for him on your end. RideGuru puts the cost a bit under $200 for Uber X.

Whether you'd find a driver willing to make the 4 hour drive is another matter. You could book the ride ahead of time, but, when the time comes, it might be that no drivers accept the ride. Booking ahead is not guaranteed.

If you want to be sure, you could call some Miami taxi companies and see if any would be willing to drive him. Taxi will be considerably more expensive (~$350 plus tip), but at least you'd be sure of it.

Good advice Chris. Just wanted to add that if decide to go with Uber or Lyft if a driver accepts the ride you may want to call or text them immediately. Tell them where they will be going and you may want to offer a tip. This will save you time versus having the driver show up see the destination after he starts trip and decide he wouldnt want to travel that far. The reason I suggest tipping is the driver most likely will do most of the ride back empty (dead miles). Tolls, gas, and time (especially hitting traffic)will all be out of pocket for the driver on trip back. There will be some drivers who like to do these long trips and others who dont. I personally love them  except if I get stuck in traffic:) Unfortunately I live no where near you. I would assume even with a tip it would still be cheaper then a taxi with tip. Ride.guru also has promotion offers ($ off your 1st ride) if you never taken an Uber before. Have you looked into a train? Dont know if that is an option but thought I would mention it.

I don't know. Will he be in a condition to call a car and hop in one?

I'd say order him a car service with a private driver and explain the situation. It may cost a bit more, but I think the extra precaution will be important.  You can make a reservation, you can have the contact of the driver, you just get a personal service that I think your father needs.

Uber drivers have been in the news for abandoning passengers on the side of the road. You wouldn't want that for your father.

Will he need medical related transport at this point still?

Sorry to hear about your dad. that is a conundrum for sure. If money is no object then you can definitely pay a taxi or limo service to take you but you'll have to call around. If you are trying to save money then a bus or van service might exist. This site lists a few limo services for that route that you could get estimates for online (go to the home page ride.guru).

Not to state the obvious, but have you looked into whether there is a bus that does that route?
