The Guru Take
Let's face it; travel is time consuming.
Let's face it; travel is time consuming. There is so much efficiency and productivity that can be created by improving it.
While this concept may not seem to make sense financially now, things can change quickly as the concept gets more adopted and the technology and process improve. Some things to consider:
- There is always a market for high-end services. It may not apply to us commonfolk, but there is a considerable market for private jets that cost tens of millions of dollars. Why not on-demand private planes?
- Economy of scale. Back in the day, when not many people traveled long distances, people doubted the financial viability of trains. That changed quickly. If enough people start utilizing it, the cost will naturally come down.
- New Technologies. Today, the flight technology is expensive, but this will improve as the demand grows. Harriers and Osprey (VTOLs) cost millions, but the emergence of drones will change the industry.
Yes, I said, "drones." Amazon is now delivering packages through the sky, why not people? This is my wild vision, and there are lots of hurdles to overcome, but imagine the efficiency and cost savings you will get if a drone can pick you up and "deliver" you to places?!
No, not helicopters...I said drones! Fine...autonomous helicopters. :)
